Hailing from LA, DJ Fnord and KJ Kollider are revolutionaries of the underground D.I.Y. karaoke scene, creating custom karaoke tracks and videos, including mashups! Starting at 11:30 PM -- right after house band Smash-Up Derby's "Tribute to Michael Jackson" -- they'll turn the upstairs lounge into Bootie's first karaoke bar!

This seems like something that would get shown at GC. It seems like an SNL skit, but I think it's real.

Everyday is like Monday

  • May. 26th, 2009 at 1:33 PM

Here’s the lyrics to the ode to GC that I sang last night in case you missed any lines. It’s sung to the tune of “Everyday is like Sunday” by Morrissey...

Driving slowly down Pico
Back to the place where strange songs are sung
This is a special pub, an alternative club
Karaoke. Sing karaoke. Sing karaoke. Sing

Everyday is like Monday. Everyday is gothy and gay

Sit at the bar look at the song list. How I dearly wish they start on time
On the video screen, there’s a men's soccer team
And when they dance, I Jizz in my pants

Everyday is like Monday. Everyday is gothy and gay

Here's your chance. Choose a song that is rare
And Bukakie lands on your hair
And on your face. On your face
On your face. On your face

Everyday is like Monday
Kind of odd in a good way
Form an air band with me
Everyday is gothy and gay

80s Mike indeed. The wonders of Facebook…an old classmate posted this. This picture was taken around 1986-87. That saucy little Greek gal was my first real girlfriend.

This Monday, Memorial Day, we celebrate the fifth anniversary of
Ground Control! We won't promise a star-studded gala, or free giveaways
of anything. No bells, whistles or bribes, just us, doing what we've been doing,
kick-ass alternative karaoke, every Monday night. :-)

See you then!

What you see is nothing but yourself.
Through the film of destiny
A light depicts pictures on the screen.
It’s self-selected, self-imposed.
All happens in consciousness.
When you look at anything
It’s the ultimate you see.
- The ultimate -
You think you see a stone, a cloud or a tree.

Hungry, thirsty, longing,
Searching and seizing,
Holding, losing and suffering.
All your going and coming,
Seeking pleasure, loving and hating –
All this shows: you don’t know the source.

You were not born, they told you a lie.
It’s just an idea that was born and shall die.
The cognition hurts me, they told me a lie.
It’s just an idea that was born and shall die.

On realization, you feel complete,
Free from the pleasure-pain complex.
Pain and pleasure go together.
Freedom from one is freedom from both.

You were not born, they told you a lie.
It’s just an idea that was born and shall die.
The cognition hurts me, they told me a lie.
It’s just an idea that was born and shall die.

Helmet Smelling

Forehead Kissing

Holding in the Air

And the dreaded seesaw!

Warning - Libertarian Rant Ahead

  • May. 8th, 2009 at 2:14 PM

News Flash:
The government cannot protect you from tainted food. No one can. The best you can do is cook it properly yourself and only consume food from sources that you trust. Still we all get food poisoning from time to time. A fact of life. The Gov sometimes outlaws good products and does not have to offer a reason.

An example
http://abcnews.go.com/2020/Health/Story?id=858453&page=1

The FDA, which is made up of well meaning imperfect humans who make mistakes, has approved drugs, which have killed a lot of people and delayed the legal release of some drugs, which could save thousands of lives if they were not banned.

Think about it.

Let’s say the FDA announces the release and approval of a new heart medication which they say will save 3,000 lives a year. Sounds good right? Here’s the problem. It took the FDA 15 years of study before it cleared the drug for legal release. Let’s do the math. 15 x 3,000 = 45,000. The FDA indirectly killed 45,000 people by making it illegal for these people to get that drug during the approval process.

In a free country a person should have the choice of all possible meds/foods/drugs. Some will only choose FDA approved ones; others will choose ones which are not approved. In a free society, it should be the individuals’ choice what to put in/out of his/her body not the governments.

BTW
I would define a libertarian as
A liberal who favors individual freedom and choice over goverment control and has a clue about econ 101, which most people don’t.

Many are pro-choice when it comes to reproduction, as I am, but not when it comes to food and drugs. I think that they are inconsistent.

It’s my body.

It’s my choice.

When You Don’t Fully Trust Life, You Suffer

  • Apr. 29th, 2009 at 10:21 PM

An active mind is a sign that you are not fully trusting life. And since you ARE life, this means that you are not fully trusting yourself. Most people never stop to consider that they never consciously made the very first decision of their entire life… to come into this world! That’s right. All you know is that you are here. Life, YOU, put you here. But your appearance here had nothing to do with your brain, did it? In fact, your brain wasn’t even formed yet when you entered this world! Since that’s the case, then there must be something else, other than your brain, driving the train. And that is the isness that you are before your mind or your body even came into being. Pure isness. No form.

Maybe it’s just me, but this seems like the kind of image Howard would put in a GC songbook.
